Happy Carnival of Flowers!

To coincide with the well known Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, each year we decorate our feature window with a display to celebrate the Carnival and all things Spring.

We plan this window for months, whilst in the throws of the south westerly winds. This year we were really taken with the beautiful fabric designs from Liberty Art Prints. Think quintessential Liberty London and mix that with furnishings. The colour and pattern doesn’t shout at you so much as sternly whispers and commands attention.

We started with the beautiful large pattern floral in exciting bold colours that make each flower pop off the fabric. We then acquired hand made stick furniture (table and chair) which we painted in a complimentary Pumpkin shade from Resene. We used another Liberty fabric for the chair cushion – this time a small scale floral printed on a soft velvet basecloth.

For the accessories, we decided to keep it simple, so as not to detract from the fabrics, and to also symbolize everything Spring – clean, fresh, new. The glass table lamp sits on the table, easy on the eye, with the custom shade in complimentary colours (contrast cuff top and base) from within the fabric. The Cloisonné butterfly jar, again in complimentary colours, adds a bit of fauna to our Spring setting. The hanging pendant light, clear glass, large and curvaceous. It is shaped to replicate the pendants at the Bolshoi theatre. I love the juxtaposition of the complex structure, to the simple material.  And last but not least, the copper mirror, to add a tiny bit of glam to the setting. The vibrant orange glow of the copper really catches the eye.

This is a simple understated Spring setting that you could easily fall in love with whether it is 2014 or 2020. I adore it.
